It was with the HotOut project that some students from the Electronics, Automation and Control course won 2nd place in the FAQtos Award, whose final was held on September 18, at Instituto Superior Técnico, in Lisbon.

Among the 82 applications initially presented at national level, the HotOut project developed by students David Silva, Duarte Barradas, Leandro Rodrigues, Tiago Barradas, supervised by Professor José Carvalho and with the support of other professors, won the jury. This project, designed and developed in the full context of a pandemic, consisted of equipment that allows the monitoring of temperature from a distance, avoiding close contacts between health professionals and patients and also avoiding the excessive consumption of PPE.

Also to be congratulated are the students Ana Fonseca, Alexandre Rosa, Bernardo Gil, Leonardo Silva and João Rato, who defended the “InOut Counter” project (a system for controlling the entrance and exit of people from the establishments, so that the real availability of safe space, at a distance) and who were among the 10 finalists.

It should be noted that EPSM was the only school in the district of Santarém to be selected for the final and that, of the 3 projects presented by the school, two of them passed to the final stage, which reveals the quality of the work carried out by the students.

Duarte Bernardo, President of the EPSM Board, considers that “as Instituto Superior Técnico is an entity of great national and international prestige, with great emphasis on R&D projects, this award ends up raising the recognition of hard, serious and entrepreneurial daily work , recommended by EPSM and its community. This pride certainly extends to the region where we are located and represents another stage written with golden fingers for a teaching that should be geared, since its inception, to experimentation, creativity and innovation”.

The FAQtos Award is promoted by a team from INOV - INESC Inovação, at Instituto Superior Técnico and is aimed at all secondary school students. Participants had to present a project on the topic “Applications of Radio Frequencies”.
