EPSM defines Environmental Sustainability as a priority for 2023

The Professional School of Salvaterra de Magos (EPSM) wants to be a more sustainable school and reduce its ecological footprint, and is already preparing some changes for 2023.

EPSM submitted an application for a project to Support the Renovation and Increase in the Energy Performance of Service Buildings, within the scope of the PRR, which includes some interventions in its facilities aimed at sustainability and energy rehabilitation. This application includes the installation of electricity production systems for self-consumption, the improvement of thermal insulation and the installation of an HVAC system (heating, ventilation and air conditioning). At the same time, the school is promoting various actions aimed at employees and students and aimed at promoting and raising awareness of change and the adoption of good environmental practices. It should be noted that EPSM recently carried out internal training aimed at the school community, in which employees presented concrete proposals to make EPSM a more sustainable school, reducing energy consumption and consumables. Accelerating the digitization of administrative and pedagogical processes, initiated during the pandemic, was one of the many proposals presented.

Duarte Bernardo, President of the Board, assumes EPSM's commitment to sustainability and recalls that the school has participated over the last few years in several projects that address sustainability, highlighting the ERASMUS+ project. “Within the scope of ERAMUS+, our employees were able to observe the best environmental practices in some countries, such as Finland, Germany or Denmark. Although we are still a long way from that reality, we have tried to replicate at EPSM some of the good practices we have observed, thus making our contribution so that we can use our resources in a more intelligent and efficient way, thus reducing our environmental footprint. We are also working so that some of the next Professional Aptitude Test projects can address this theme of sustainability and digital transformation, always in partnership with companies”.

Soon, several initiatives are planned that will involve the entire school community around this common goal.
