Five students and a professor from the Electronics, Automation and Command course at EPSM start tomorrow, Saturday, a trip to Boston, in the United States. During the next week, the EPSM group will visit some places of interest in the Boston (Massachusetts) area, such as the Oceanographic Institute of Woods Hole, a research and higher education center dedicated to the study of marine science and engineering; the New Bedford Whaling Museum, a museum of the whaling industry located in the city of New Bedford and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. One of the highlights of the week will undoubtedly be a visit to the MIT-Massachusetts Institute of Technology, one of the most prestigious universities in the world. During the week, the EPSM delegation will also be received by Senators Marc Pachecho and Tony Cabral, both of Portuguese descent.

It should be remembered that this trip to Boston resulted from the victory of the EPSM team in the 1st edition of the Atlântico Júnior Prize, a competition promoted by Ciência Viva - National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture and by FLAD - Luso-American Development Foundation whose final took place on the 20th of June. Students from the Electronics, Automation and Command course Diogo Lameiras, Tiago Rainho, Rodrigo Belas, Martim Cardoso and Gonçalo Teixeira, supported by Professor José Carvalho, won the competition with a prototype of a small remote-controlled catamaran with solar energy to monitor water quality of rivers and seas.
