EPSM wins 1st place with video report on hyacinth invasion in the Sorraia River
Four students from the Communications course at the Salvaterra de Magos Professional School won 1st place in the National Competition “Best Reports 2025”, within the scope of the Young Reporters for the Environment (JRA) program.
The award-winning video report, written by Bianca Paulos, Gabriela Almeida, Lara Teixeira and Lara Mendes, stood out for the way it addressed a growing environmental problem in the region: the proliferation of water hyacinths in the Sorraia River, especially in the stretch between Coruche and Benavente.
The work reveals how this invasive species is compromising river navigation, threatening aquatic ecosystems and affecting local biodiversity.
The JRA Program, promoted in Portugal by ABAAE – European Blue Flag Association, is an international project of the Foundation for Environmental Education, which aims to develop research, communication and active citizenship skills among young people.
The national competition recognizes and publicizes the best reports produced in different formats (video, photography, podcast and article) on topics related to sustainability.
